Duplicate Attachment Finder Documentation
A guide to exact-file comparison, duplicate groups, and read-only attachment review in monday.com.
What the app does
Duplicate Attachment Finder's feature scope is comparing file attachments associated with monday.com board items, grouping byte-identical files, and showing their source items for review. SHA-256 is the comparison method. This guide explains file matching and the read-only review workflow.
Installation requirements
Access to board items and attachments depends on your monday.com permissions. Review the requested permissions and applicable privacy information before authorizing account access. Use only accounts and files you have authority to access; viewing this guide does not grant that authority.
File comparison workflow
- Use authorized access to the board items and attachments being compared.
- Read attachment information and retrieve accessible file content.
- Compute SHA-256 comparison values and group byte-identical files with their source items.
- Review matching attachments and their item context before any separate manual action in monday.com.
File comparison depends on successful access to each attachment. Review access and download errors alongside any results.
How identical files are identified
SHA-256 produces a comparison value from a file’s bytes. Byte-identical copies produce the same hash even when filenames differ. Changing a file’s content or embedded metadata can change its bytes and hash. The matching scope is exact copies, rather than documents that merely look similar or convey the same information.
Understanding duplicate groups
A duplicate group represents multiple matching attachments and the items associated with them. “Original item” means the source item holding an attachment; it does not establish which upload came first or which copy should be kept. Review context in monday.com before making any manual change.
Read-only behavior
The feature scope is reading data to compare attachments. It does not include automatically deleting files or changing board items. Any cleanup is a separate manual decision in monday.com. Read-only behavior does not mean file content is never downloaded or processed; see the privacy supplement.
Supported files and limitations
Exact matching depends on file bytes, rather than a file extension or visual appearance. Edited documents, different exports, and visually similar files may have different bytes. A file extension alone does not establish whether an attachment can be accessed or compared. Platform permissions, file sizes, attachment locations, and download failures can limit coverage; this guide does not promise support for every file or unlimited board capacity. The app is not a backup or a guarantee that every duplicate has been found.
Troubleshooting
Verify access to each attachment, retain sanitized error details, and check whether apparently identical files actually have the same bytes. See support and bug-reporting instructions. Do not treat an incomplete scan as a complete inventory.
Uninstallation
Manage installed applications through monday.com's app-management controls, subject to your account permissions. Uninstallation and deletion requests are separate processes; removal should not be assumed to delete every retained record immediately. Contact AutomateBetter through the support page for a privacy or deletion inquiry, and read the privacy supplement for the applicable disclosures.
